HIGHEST RANK or POSITION in GSSq: 1st Lt.
START/END DATES OF SERVICE IN GSSq: May/1960 - August/1963
ORGs: Field Survey
OTHER: I left the Squadron in 1963 and went to Ohio State University to obtain MS in Geodetic Science. After graduation I was assigned to The Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratory (AFCRL) doing research on Geodetic Satellite technology. I left AFCRL in August 1969 and was assigned to Military Airlift Command (MAC) in the Plans Division handling paperwork for ACGS and 1381st. Control of those activities was transferred to DMA while I was there. I was at Scott AFB for 5 years but spent 1 year assigned across the river to the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center (ACIC) (I haven't kept current with all the new names of these organizations.)
I left MAC in 1974 and went to the Global Positioning Satellite System Joint Program Office (GPSS JPO) at the Space and Missile Systems Office (SAMSO), Los Angeles Air Force Station in the GPS Test Division. In 1976, I was transferred to the US Army Yuma Proving Ground (USAYPG) in Yuma, AZ and became the Air Force GPS Test Program Manager still assigned to the GPS JPO. All the initial testing on GPS was conducted at YPG. I retired as Maj USAF in 1980 and stayed on as GPS Test Support Contract Program Managers for Aerospace Corp. and then General Dynamics. In 1991, the GPS Test Program was transferred to the 746th Test Squadron at Holloman AFB, NM. General Dynamics decided not to bid on the Test Support contract at Holloman so I went with Intermetrics, we bid the contract and won. I then became the Intermetrics Test Support Contract Program Manager at Holloman AFB. We lost the contact in 1995 and I did some consulting for a year or so. I retired for good in 1997. I continued to live in Alamogordo until Dec 2008 and have just finished a move back to Yuma, AZ. During the last 10 years, my wife, Ruth and I have spent lots of time traveling the US and Canada in our RV.
